چکیده
Many older industrial cities in the UK have been pursuing cultural strategies to promote urban regeneration. These strategies were designed, in part, to attract new residents to run-down central and inner areas of the city. This article, based on research in Manchester and Glasgow, examines the characteristics of new residents; their reasons for choosing to live there and their factors of satisfaction with their new place of residence. The findings of this research suggest that there could be problems in sustainability of the re-urbanisation process. 2002 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd

While striving to become the new economic power house of China and the East Asian region, Shanghai is undergoing a profound restructuring of its infrastructure and, more importantly, its physical form and appearance. Urban revival will in part rely on the successful redevelopment of the old central city where dilapidated housing and fragmented industrial use are no longer tolerable. Shanghai’s ...

This paper analyzes various aspects of this transformation to lead to an understanding of an appropriate strategy for metropolitan governance. Recent politicial developments indicate an apparent fragmentation of Istanbul citizens into segments with different ex...
متن کاملCombining neural network predictions for medical diagnosis
We present our results from combining the predictions of an ensemble of neural networks for the diagnosis of hepatobiliary disorders. To improve the accuracy of the diagnosis, we train the second level networks using the outputs of the first level networks as input data. The second level networks achieve an accuracy that is higher than that of the individual networks in the first level. Compare...
متن کاملOpportunity egalitarianism and income inequality
In order to study the implications of the opportunity egalitarian theory of justice for the definition of welfare and inequality criteria, in this paper we extend the rank-dependent approach to the measurement of social welfare, suggested by Yaari [J. Econ. Theory 44 (1988)], to the case of income distributions which can be decomposed across homogeneous sub-groups. We then capture (some of) the...

9 The oligonucleotides coding for three epitopes (HA91–108, NP55–69, and NP 147–158) of influenza, virus stimulating B-cells, T-helper cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), respectively, were previously employed for expressing each epitope in flagella that induced specific humoral and cellular immune responses. We have constructed new plasmids expressing all three epitopes as a single recom...
